No More Knotty Pine
Many of the furniture pieces I have from years ago are knotty pine.
They have yellowed through the years and I am just not happy with the look anymore.
This dresser was part of a set in my daughter’s room. Instead of sending it off to Goodwill I decided to paint it.
It was as easy as one, two, three…
first make sure to shellac the knots so that they do not bleed through
(got this tip from The Melon Patch where I purchase my Annie Sloan Chalk Paint).
Then I gave the piece two coats of “old white” Annie Sloan Chalk Paint.
I distressed the dresser by sanding it lightly then applied a coat of clear wax to the top.
After buffing it to a shine it was DONE!
Now I have a “new” dresser for my daughter’s room at our country home.
The room still needs painting and I need to bring in other furniture but the Dresser is done and we love it.
Told you it was easy…
Thanks for coming by,
Margaret

Hi EllenaElizabeth, the chalk paint comes in many beautiful colours and can even be mixed to make it unique. Go for it…paint that pine in a great colour to go with the rest of your furniture. If you can’t get the Annie Sloan paint you can make your own chalk paint, there are several recipes online.
Hope your back gets better, I have been having similar problems with mine so I haven’t done as many projects as I would of liked this summer. Take care,
Margaret

That dresser is now like a new piece of furniture. Those original handles look great too! We must be similar vintage as I have quite a few knotty pine pieces I would have no hesitation in painting when I’m up to it back wise. Just not sure what to do with them though. Whether I just go for white or an under colour and then white. I do like the white look but I don’t think it’s really me and I’d hanker for a bit of colour. Plus the rest of my furniture would probably look outta place. All of my other furniture is antique and I could never paint that. Not even sure if the chalk paint is available in Australia, I’ll look into it. Thanks for sharing your wonderful project.

You did a fabulous job on this, Margaret! I love working with ASCP. Great tip about covering the knots; I learned that the hard way when I first started painting many years ago. BTW, love the lampshades!
