Painted Glass Bottles & Vases
I had some free time on my hands and decided to get busy with
some glass vases from the Dollar store …
Unfortunately I didn’t get a before photo of the shorter vase…
I am always rushing through projects and only remember my camera half way through.
The previous owners of our farm left us some Martha Stewart paint and it was the perfect colour for this project.
I simply swirled some of the paint inside the vases and let the excess drip off. I had to clean the edges several times but it was well worth it.
I still have some paint left and so I will be looking for another dollar store vase in a different shape to add to this collection.
My second project was actually easier to do…
I have had these three glass bottles for years, they were clear glass and I had them on display many years ago on top of my kitchen cabinets. While using some left over Annie Sloan Old White chalk paint to paint some pine cones last Christmas I decided to take a brush to these bottles.
It took three coats of paint to completely cover the bottles.
I sanded them lightly with very light sand paper but you can use steel wool.
I am very pleased with the results and both projects cost only a few dollars.
Thanks for visiting,
MargaretÂ

Isn’t it amazing what a little bit of paint can do – great transformation.
Thank you for linking up at Shabbilicious Friday.

Thanks, I’ve done some porcelain and glass painting but baked them, I hadn’t tried paint like this but was afraid they couldn’t hold water or be washed without losing some of the paint. For purely decorative, however, they are beautiful.

It was very nice of them indeed Heidi, especially since I love that colour 🙂

These turned out great! It was so nice of the previous owners to leave that paint behind for you to do this with wasn’t it?

Hi Janet, I did not treat them so they can not go in the dishwasher. The chalk paint ones can take water in them but I don’t know how the paint will hold up to having them washed on the outside. The vases can not hold water in them, I think you can probably give them a quick rinse and dry them or just dust them with a soft cloth or paper towel. Hope that help.

Can these vases be washed, either by hand or dishwasher? Did you treat them afterward to “set” the paint or bake it on?
Margaret
Thanks Darlene, I have been trying to do that more these days. Everything is so expensive so I love working with what I already have. Thanks again for coming by!

Thanks Debbie! You should try it is super easy, especially the ones I painted with chalk paint. The blue ones take longer to dry and it’s more of a trial and error kind of project but well worth it. I will be making some more.

Hi Margaret, great idea for revitalizing items around the house. It’s great when you can change things up without buying new. 🙂 Bye for now, Darlene
